  Transport

Throughout Calabria there are a variaty of bus routes travelling through the many towns and connecting to surronding regions. These bus routes are frequent if not direct, and serve as useful transport if the trains have mechanical problems. Public transport is not always fast or easy, particularly in the rural regions. For remoter places, you will require a car.

Car travel is another option to navigate around Calabria however, even though the roads are in good condition, junctions and turn offs are poorly marked. Short cutting through towns is not a good idea either as town centers are often conjested and busy.

During the winter months travelling along the A3 in northern Calabria, snow may fall and result in a slippery surface so it is wise to drive when no or little snow is around. Also be mindful of leaving valuable items in the car as car theft and break-ins are not uncommon, particularaly in Reggio Calabria.

Train lines run through Calabria, following either the Ionian coast as far as Reggio Calabria or running inland past Cosenza and the Tyrrhenian Coast.

Lamezia is Calabria's main and largest airport, flying to the main Italian cities and other well known Europe destinations. Another airport known as the Manniti airport based in Reggio di Calabria has flights from Rome and Milan as well as Malta and Madris in the summer season. Sant' Anna airport is the last major airport, located in Croton and is relatively new, providing flights to Istanbul, Copenhagen, Berlin, Monaco and other international connections.
