Mayans made small sculptures of clay and carved huge statues from stone. Most of the small sculptures were figures of men or women. The large carvings stood around 9 meters high and were carved with portraits of Mayan rulers.

The Mayans had the ability to produce amazing sculptures, pottery, paintings and architecture.

Mayan artists decorated walls with brightly covered murals that featured lifelike figures taking part in festivals and battles. Mayans rarely shadded colours and instead, outlined their figures with brush-like utensils.

One distinctive product of Mayan craftmanship was a cylindrical pottery vase with three slab like legs and a cover.  This pottery was thought to be developed via influence of Teotihucan civilization, made present to the Maya through trading interactions.

Ancient Mayans were one of the few ancient civilizations that signed their name to their artwork. They either attatched their signiture to a small plaque below the statue, or engraved their signiture within the corner of their artwork.

Mayan men and women were both skilled in art and different art aspects. Some of these skills included loom weaving, basketry, pottery and specialized tool making.
