Ancient Maya

The Ancient Mayas were a civilization that dated back to ca 1500 BC and remained one of the most heavily populated and culturally diverse societies for around 2000 years. Situated in the heart of Central America and Mexico, this civilization has played an important part in our understanding of our ancient civilizations.

At their peak, the Maya dominated an area of about 650 km from east to west, and more that 17 000 km from north to south.
